T O P I C R E V I E WplutonianmenaceSo the original Lindaland discord is open to all members and was set up over a year ago, this means that it doesn't matter where you stand with the founder, everyone has a fair chance of being accepted and being a part of the community. However, which one of you named yourself Knowflake lol?My guess is RandallAlso, here is the Discord link. Apparently it already has members from a while back. http://discord.com/invite/xmjNZNJdYT teaselIt's Randall. RandallIt wasn’t a year ago. It was April of this year. I did it as an afterthought. But maybe it will start picking up. That link allows automatic approval.plutonianmenace quote:Originally posted by Randall:It wasn’t a year ago. It was April of this year. HA!FromashellSo is this Discord place the reason for less activity on Lindaland? Or where do you find the people with 10+ years experience nowadays? Where did they go, the people who used to be here? Am I a ghost stuck in a loop?plutonianmenace quote:Originally posted by Fromashell:So is this Discord place the reason for less activity on Lindaland? I just think that forums have slowly died out in general and been replaced by avenues such as reddit.RandallPeople have always moved on. Some return. Most get on with their lives. That has more to do with the passage of time than anything else. However, activity has been down due to less new memberships. Basically, we have been having a cold war with Google. They bumped us way down because I refused to get https protocol. I held my ground. It was a long, stubborn battle, but I won. We were very recently put back near the top. Things should pick back up again soon. Honestly, I thought we would never get back on the first page with Google again. It wasn’t just us. It’s their policy. We used to be number one for years, and then we kept switching back and forth for the number one spot with Wikipedia.plutonianmenace quote:Originally posted by Randall:People have always moved on. TBH, I am really on and off with this forum where sometimes I will come and I will post en-masse and other times I would take a large hiatus. What I am finding though is that in general, the internet forum culture is just dying out. People have transitioned more to reddit, discord, and those types of sites. Most internet forums were good earlier in the century when the internet was first taking off but at some point I feel like they sort of just fell off. I am not sure what the future holds for forum type of communities. Discord is not the best long-term answer since it just moves too fast.RandallForums are certainly not as popular as they used to be, but I think they will always be around because people like the slower pace and for people to access specialized knowledge. Many more people Google for astro questions than ever join, but there was a clear drop in both registrations and traffic when Google blacklisted us.plutonianmenaceCome to think of it, I joined this site when I was looking up something and realized that Linda had written a book on it. I initially rejected the idea of joining this site since the forums looked so old and I wandered who still posts on them. Soon, I started to find that these were actually some of the more active Astrology forums on the entire web. Not long after, it was a no brainer and I joined. However, I feel like all forums are ultimately competing against not just discords but also Reddit communities. What gets me is that as Pluto goes into Aquarius, we are supposed to prioritize community for better or worse. I cannot help but think if some innovation may come to Forums and Forum culture as a result of Pluto's movement into Aquarius itself.plutonianmenacebump
